One of the things many people say about trying to eat healthy is that it is too expensive. This really not the case. Love them or hate them, Wal-Mart is the largest provider of organic food in the US, and just announced plans to cut their price of their organic food by 25%. (Granted, “organic” doesn’t always equal healthy food – an organic chocolate cookie is still a cookie. But you get the idea.)
All that said, food studies scholar Leanne Brown has released a free cookbook aimed at those on SNAP (food stamps) that gives meals plans for $4 a day. The cook book has a number of ethnic dishes like Chana Masala as well as old favorites like Black Eyed Peas and Collards. While not all of these are the best recipes for weight loss, cooking at home is cheaper and healthier than eating out. If you’re looking for some ideas for some good food on the cheap, this is a great cookbook.
