RUN CLUB!

Back by popular demand!  The Philip Looney Fit Saturday Run Club!

Why?  The Philip Looney Fit Saturday Run Club is part of my efforts to help people live a healthier lifestyle through exercise.  Running was one of the key activities to my personal weight loss, and is still my go to cardio exercise.  The goal of the club is to introduce new runners to running, and to build a community of runners of all levels.

At the start of the run, I’ll work to pair you up with someone of similar running level/experience, so try to show up a few minutes early.  For newer runners, we’ll implement a beginners running program for you to follow.

I strongly recommend you use this opportunity to set a goal of running a 5k.  One I plan on running is the Hot Summer’s Night 5k on August 1.  Register before July 15 and it’s only $25.  This is a fairly easy course.  Your biggest challenge is the heat.

When?  Saturday June, 13 at 3pm, and each Saturday after that, weather permitting.

Where?  Riverfront Park, 312 Laurel St Columbia, SC 29201

Who?  Anyone who wants to run, get some exercise, and enjoy the beauty of the Riverfront Park!

How much?  FREE, just show up at the park.

What do I need?   A few simple things:

  1. Make sure you have a good pair of running shoes.  If you show up in basketball shoes, I’m going to recommend you not run so you don’t hurt yourself.
  2. Drink water through out the day, especially about 20 oz. an one to two hours before we run.
  3. Bring a bottle of water with you and a small snack, like a banana or orange.
  4. Wear comfortable workout clothes, avoiding cotton shirts and shorts.  If you show up in sweat pants, I’m going to recommend you not run.  If you show up in a sauna suit, I will give you a lecture.
