Always remember: YOU are in control of YOUR health. 8 years ago I was faced with a choice. I could either get my blood pressure under control by going on medication before I turned 30; OR I could make changes to my lifestyle by exercising and eating better. I chose to change myself, my outlook, and my actions. I lost over 40 pounds and I've kept it off by making fitness a part of my lifestyle. Almost every ailment can be improved by regular exercise. I'm living proof of that, and I'm not alone. I became a personal trainer because I wanted to share my success story with others and help them in their fitness journey. Each week I'm sharing my favorite fitness tips, workouts, and motivational articles through my email newsletter. Sign up today, and on Monday you'll get some motivation to get you through the workout week. … [Read more...]
More Fun At The Gym
This is something I did at the gym on a challenge because my wife didn't think I could. We need a little motivation to try something new. Sometimes that comes from haters, naysayers, and other negative people - even if it is unintentional. Don't let what others say or think hold you back from reaching your goals. … [Read more...]
5 Ways to Fit In 30 Minutes of Exercise A Day
A report was published recently that says that the decrease in exercise over the last 20 years is what has really caused the weight gain in America. For me personally, I know this was the case - coming home after sitting for 8 hours a day, and sitting around for another 4 hours or so watching TV was a direct cause to me putting on weight. Besides helping me look at food as fuel, it had a very simple piece of advice - as an adult, I need to get 30 minutes of physical activity in every single day. If you're struggling with this, you might wonder how to do it. Here are five things that I did that worked for me:. Make it a Game - One of the things I did was play 30 minutes of Wii Fit everyday. The Value of Doing Something Badly
A co-worker of mine, who is an ultra-marathoner and one of the inspirations behind my starting to run, pointed me toward this excellent essay The Perfect Game by turn of the century author G.K. Chesterton. I encourage you to take few minutes and read the entire essay; but to summarize, Chesterton is playing a game of croquet with a friend and is getting beaten badly. Chesterton's friend asks him why he bothers even playing croquet since he is so bad at it. Here is the response: It is only we who play badly who love the Game itself. You love glory; you love applause; you love the earthquake voice of victory; you do not love croquet. You do not love croquet until you love being beaten at croquet. It is we the bunglers who adore the occupation in the abstract. It is we to whom it is art for art’s sake. If we may see the face of Croquet herself (if I may so express myself) we are content to see her face turned upon us in anger. Our play is called amateurish; and we wear proudly the name … [Read more...]
